While Beyoncé underwent an outfit change later in the day, trading in her Vuitton racer suit to a skimpy Ferrari one (this one was punctuated with a pair of vertiginous cherry red heels and an on-theme checkered flag, which she carried in her hand), Jay-Z’s casual daytime ensemble transitioned him rather seamlessly into the rest of the evening. All day on Saturday, Hov wore a simple, all-black outfit from the streetwear mainstay Fear of God, consisting of a mock-neck base layer and a sleek leather letterman jacket. He wore a pair of perfectly baggy black pants and a New York City staple: classic peanut butter Timberlands, with the tongue folded out.
In addition to Bey and Jay, the Vegas Grand Prix drew a trove of A-list celebrities, many of whom took the opportunity to go full throttle on the event’s theme. Rapper Travis Scott was spotted in an adidas Y-3 racing jacket and was also taken for a spin in Hamilton’s whip. Wicked star Cynthia Erivo opted for a distressed moto leather ensemble from Diesel, chosen in collaboration with her longtime stylist Jason Bolden. (Like the Carters, Erivo also went for a joyride, except hers was courtesy of pro-racer Carlos Sainz.) But in a sea of high-octane glamour, Jay-Z stood out for his supportive, date-night-appropriate fit. To paraphrase the couple’s yesteryear hit, “’03 Bonnie & Clyde”: All he needs in this life of Sin (City), is him and his girlfriend.
